Good post. I think the key to answering your questions lies in understanding Jewish tradition,and the place of the paschal lamb…at least that is a start. Death passed over households that had the blood of the lamb painted on the door. Death will pass over us if we are marked with Jesus’ blood. The sacrifice is necessary for the reparation of sins, as it always was for the Old Testament Jews.

I don’t know the answer, but … though his life was his message, maybe his death was the proof or example or conviction of that message. He held nothing back.
