WordPress Plugins

One of the beauties of the WordPress blogging software that powers this site is its extensibility. You name it and you can probably find a plugin to do it … and when you can’t you can write your own!

My own attempts at making WordPress plugins are listed here. Unfortunately, due to ill-health, they have not been developed or supported properly for some years. They still work with the latest versions of WordPress under many circumstances (including on this website) but may well conflict with any WordPress features added after 2008 — e.g. custom post types — if you use them.

  • Image Shadow v1.1.0

Image Shadow automatically applies a realistic, soft drop-shadow to the jpeg images in your blog content. Can apply an optional frame too.

  • Highlight Author Comments v1.0.3

Highlight Author Comments automatically displays comments made by a post’s author in a distinctive style with no need to edit your template files, etc. All you do is provide a snippet of CSS styling to be applied to author posts.

  • Plugin Output Cache v4.0.8

Helps other plugins to improve their efficiency by caching their output. In particular, most of the plugins listed here automatically use the output cache whenever it is available.

  • Popular Posts v2.6.2.0

Displays a list of the most viewed posts on the site. What gets displayed and how it is displayed is highly configurable.

  • Similar Posts v2.6.2.0

Displays a list of posts which are related to the current post. Similarity is judged according to a post’s content and pattern of word usage as well it’s title and tags. What gets displayed and how it is displayed is highly configurable.

  • Similar Posts Feed v2.3.6

Works alongside the Similar Posts plugin to add a list of related posts to your syndication feeds. Similar Posts must be installed for it to work. The Similar Posts plugin now includes all the functionality of Similar Posts Feed.

  • Random Posts v2.6.2.0

Displays a list of posts chosen at random. What gets displayed and how it is displayed is highly configurable.

  • Recent Posts v2.6.2.0

Displays a list of your most recent posts. What gets displayed and how it is displayed is highly configurable.

  • Recent Comments v2.6.2.1

Displays a list of your most recent comments. What gets displayed and how it is displayed is highly configurable.

  • Post-Plugin Library v2.6.2.1

This plugin provides a library of essential routines for the Post Plugins: Similar Posts, Recent Posts, Random Posts, and Recent Comments. It does nothing on its own but is required if you use the other plugins.

  • Compact Archives v1.0.6

Displays blog archives in a choice of three compact forms, one of which fits neatly in a sidebar. Ideal if your blog has lots of posts. The output is cacheable.

  1. Hi

Thanks for a great plugin – recentposts.
I’m just wondering, is it possible to to use it on my site twice with different settings?
I’d like to output a list of recent posts from one category (news) in one box, and another list of recent posts from a different category (featured articles) in another box.

    Thanks

  2. I download the popular post plugin and was able to get it going. I had one issue of it duplicating it’s self, but I was able to figure out how to shut that off.
Works likes a champ so far. Now, I just need some traffic like everybody else.

  3. Great plugins. I’m using the “Similar Posts” plugin and I’m really impressed with the speed and the customisation – too many plugins just display things inside tags.

  4. Rob – thanks for these! Appreciate the hard work that goes into them, believe me!

Any change you’re working on a “follower” plugin/widget? Currently I believe only Blogger has it, and I’d really like to have my followers listed using WP.

Would it help if I batted my eyelashes at you? I’m totally capable.

    Thanks much!

    Jenn

  6. Rob your plugins are hands down the best made. They don’t slow down the blogs, are not database intensive and just plain work well. Using it on WordPress MU 2.7.1 and it is wonderful. Simply great work!
